This complex of palaces was previously used as the residence of Qajar kings. Among the constructions built here some 100 years age, only Sahebqaranyeh and Ahmad Shah’s palace have preserved their original forms. During the Pahlavi period, the ex-king ordered the construction of several new structures, including a school and Niavaran Palace.
With a built-up area of 2,000 sq. m, Niavaran Palace stands in a spacious garden covering 5 hectares. It was built between 1948 and 1967, and, following the Islamic Revolution, was turned into a museum in 1968.
